“Significant because it produced the longest studio recording we’ve ever released."
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have returned, announcing their new record Omnium Gatherum.
The follow-up to Butterfly 3000, which was released last year, the album currently has no release date, but album pre-orders will begin on March 22.
Omnium Gathering marks the first music King Giz has recorded in the same room since the pandemic, following three albums released in lockdowns and recorded remotely.
“This recording session felt significant. Significant because it was the first time all six Gizzards had gotten together after an extraordinarily long time in lockdown,” Stu Mackenzie of the band stated.
“Significant because it produced the longest studio recording we’ve ever released. Significant because (I think) it’s going to change the way we write and record music – at least for a while… A turning point. A touchstone. I think we’re entering into our ‘jammy period’. It feels good.”
Alongside the announcement, the band have released The Dripping Tap a new 18-minute single. The track reflects the newfound inspiration of the band, featuring peaking anthemic moments, wrapped in an aesthetic of fuzzy garage rock.
