Hear a selection of some of Australia's greatest hits of the late 20th century as reimagined by a national stalwart
Venerated Scottish-born, Australia-bred troubadour John Paul Young — best known for performing the 1978 global chart-buster Love Is In The Air — will breathe fresh life into the acclaimed tunes of the Vanda & Young catalogue (i.e. the collected work of lauded songwriters Harry Vanda & George Young) with his Allstar Band over two special nights early next year.
The John Paul Young & The Allstar Band: The Vanda & Young Songbook tour will hold its first concert at Sydney's Enmore Theatre on Saturday 20 February, heading down to The Palm at Crown, Melbourne, a week later, to perform on Saturday 27 February. In case you're not overly familiar (by name, at least) with the reams of iconic and well-loved songs that sprung forth from the minds of Vanda & Young over their songwriting partnership including Friday On My Mind, Falling In Love Again, Down Among The Dead Men, Standing In The Rain, presumable sequel piece Walking In The Rain, Where The Action Is and It's A Long Way To The Top, among several others.
Along with Young, artists who have gone on to perform hits written by the duo include The Easybeats, AC/DC, Grace Jones and Ted Mulry, providing the Allstar Band's forthcoming shows with a guaranteed diversity of source material from which to draw, all tied together with the cohesion and polish that comes from a career spent racking up album sales (Young has shifted more than 4 million units worldwide) as well as award nominations and wins, an induction to the ARIA Hall Of Fame and the receiving of an Order of Australia honour for services to charity and the music industry. No big deal.
Tickets for John Paul Young & The Allstar Band's Enmore show go on sale from 12 November, while the Crown gig will be up for grabs from 18 November, each via Ticketek and Ticketmaster respectively.
