The lauded Aussie songstress beat out both Kings Of Leon and Hillsong for the honour
Acclaimed Australian actress and musician Jessica Mauboy has fended off challenges from megachurch band Hillsong Worship and renowned rockers Kings Of Leon to claim the #1 position atop this week's ARIA Albums Chart for her collection of tunes from The Secret Daughter, the Seven Network drama in which she currently stars.
The Secret Daughter (Songs From The Original TV Series) — the 18th Australian album to top the charts so far this year — landed just ahead of Hillsong's new LP, their second to chart in the top 50, Let There Be Light, which took #2. Impressively enough for the Aussie-built megachurch, the album also turned in a top-40 performance in the UK, landing at #36 in this week's charts.
Kings Of Leon's WALLS, their seventh full-length, settles for #3 in their wake (though their previous three albums, released in 2008, 2010 and 2013, all nabbed the top spot, so we can't feel too bad for them).
Other notable entries this week include a #8 debut for Newcastle punks Trophy Eyes with Chemical Miracle (their first top-50 and, by extension, top-10 result), followed swiftly by beloved chanteuse Lisa Mitchell, whose new album Warriors — her first in four years — steers her to a #9 entry position. Heavyweight heroes The Dillinger Escape Plan also step out insider the top 20, with final album (for now) Dissociation claiming #14, while veteran rapper The Game also manages to make it inside the top fifth of the charts with 1992 entering at #19.

Just outside, but still solid, are Two Door Cinema Club (Gameshow, #24) and Andre Rieu (Falling In Love, #27), while one-time indie darlings The Naked & Famous still muster top-40 results on Simple Forms, which lands at #37.
On the Singles ladder, last week's #1, Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur, remains incumbent in its position, as do the next three tracks: Starboy, by The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk; Closer, by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey; and Dancing On My Own, by Calum Scott.
The week's highest debut comes from Little Mix and Shout Out To My Ex, the first single from their forthcoming fourth album — the British group step out at #16 — though Illy also makes a top-20 appearance (Catch 22 ft. Anne-Marie, #18) and Maroon 5 land just outside (Don't Wanna Know ft. Kendrick Lamar, #21). It's the band's first time in the top 50 in over a year (their last single to make that cut was Sugar, which peaked at #6 last March). A little ways down but of note, resilient sibling duo The Veronicas make a notable entry at #40 with new ditty On Your Side.
