Jeff Goldblum will release his new EP, Plays Well With Others, on 24 March via the Decca record label. The EP is packed with covers of jazz standards and traditional pop numbers.
The collaborative release will see the famous actor/piano player reunite with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and feature the vocalists Kelly Clarkson, Mattiel Brown from the indie-rock group Mattiel, Brazilian singer Rodrigo Amarante and classic singer Freda Payne. The first single featuring Brown is out now.
Goldblum said about working on the EP, "The experience of collaborating with these fantastic singers has made me feel that I have revealed myself to myself, and has left me utterly drenched and purged."
Brown added, "I’m thrilled to be working with a like-minded artist of Jeff Goldblum’s incomparable calibre. I couldn’t have imagined this outcome from penning some lyrics about an old boyfriend, but the stars seem to have aligned themselves."
In a review of his 2018 album, The Capitol Studios Sessions, we found that Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra could mix "jazzy looseness with his signature affability."
We later commented, "Jazzy Jeff is such a perfect fit for this genre, his hepcat-ish public persona making all the more sense riffing on classics such as I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free) and My Baby Just Cares For Me (featuring a stunning star turn from American Idol alumni Haley Reinhart). Grins beam from opener Cantaloupe Island (popularised in the ‘90s by Us3) through to a surprisingly competent drop-in by comedian Sarah Silverman on Me And My Shadow while Ireland’s Imelda May takes centre stage for three sultry numbers. Goldblum’s banter with his foils flows naturally but is meticulously balanced with the music's tightness in his beautifully kooky hands."
