With Jane's Addiction on hiatus, it appears most of its members are working together. However, it could be the revival of a lesser-known project from the '90s...

Following a decidedly dark year for Los Angeles alternative rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction, the group appear to be recording new music – albeit without their iconic frontman, Perry Farrell.
The group – who celebrate their 40th anniversary this year – made headlines in 2024 for all the wrong reasons thanks to a now-infamous show in Boston on September 13th. Though planned to mark the 57th birthday of drummer Stephen Perkins, the gig ended abruptly when halfway through Ocean Size, Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro got into an onstage fight.
The incident began when Farrell, who seemingly looked to be struggling with his vocals, turned to Navarro, barged into him and said, “fuck you.”
Navarro raised his hands as Farrell swung at the guitarist’s face. Bassist Eric Avery and the security detail went to restrain Farrell as the remaining people on stage departed. After the incident had been cleared, Avery, Navarro, and Perkins returned to the stage and told the crowd goodnight.
While a statement on behalf of Jane’s Addiction later cancelled the remainder of the band’s tour while they “take some time away as a group”, a further statement from Navarro, Avery, and Perkins addressed Farrell’s behaviour.
Adding that their concern for the singer’s “personal health and safety” as well as their own has left the band with no alternative, Farrell’s bandmates wrote that they hope he finds “the help he needs.”

Farrell himself later issued a statement on his Instagram Stories, where he took “full accountability” for reaching his “breaking point” that resulted in “inexcusable behaviour.”
Notably, the timing of the band’s unexpected hiatus was poor, given the release of their new single, True Love, only days afterwards. The track followed on from July’s Imminent Redemption, which was in turn their first new single in 11 years – ostensibly hinting at a new record at some point.
However, while Jane’s Addiction are currently not a going concern in the wake of last year’s events, 75% of the band appear to be working on new music together.
Over the weekend, Avery shared a video of himself recording bass, captioning the clip by noting he was “writing some more new lines to some of Stephen’s drumming”.
“Look forward to getting some Mr Navarro on them. 2025!,” he added, before tagging both Perkins and Navarro.
While Jane’s Addiction is the logical connection to be made with this announcement, there is, however, the chance that fans could be receiving a revival of the short-lived Deconstruction project.
Initially launched in 1993 between Navarro, Avery, and drummer Michael Murphy, Deconstruction released their self-titled debut in 1994 to relatively muted response. At the time of its creation though, Perkins had been offered a role as drummer, ultimately choosing to join Farrell's Porno For Pyros instead.
While it remains to be seen whether or not we’ll be receiving new music from a different-sounding Jane’s Addiction or Deconstruction in 2025, there’s no word yet as to a release date or a formal return from Jane’s Addiction.
