It Looks Like Ed Sheeran Is Going To Totally Take Over The Aus Charts

Our local acts won't be totally absent from the ladder, though

Ed Sheeran's new album Divide (÷) is set to see his presence multiply (sorry) in the upcoming ARIA Charts, with the full-length itself on course for a top-two debut in the Album stakes at week's end, as well as a simply ludicrous number of songs hitting the Singles chart.

Sheeran's tracks Dive and Perfect both look set to land somewhere in the top 10, followed closely by probable top-20 contenders Galway Girl, Happier, Supermarket Flowers and New Man. Also likely to make top-40 entries are What Do I Know?, Eraser, Hearts Don't Break Around Here, Barcelona, Nancy Mulligan, Save Myself and Bibia Be Ye Ye — not forgetting, of course, that he's occupied the top spot for a few weeks now with Shape Of You, while Castle On The Hill only just relinquished its hold on the #2 spot last weekend (though it only slipped a rung to #3).

He's also likely to see his previous albums X and + shift up into the top five, while fellow pop juggernaut Adele is expected to see 21 do the same (19, meanwhile, is likely to step it up into the top 20). Old mate Justin Bieber should ride his current Aussie tour to a rise for Purpose somewhere in the top 25.

Looking beyond Sheeran's terrifying level of expected dominance, Aussie acts All Our Exes Live In Texas, Kingswood and Methyl Ethel are looking for solid results with their respective new albums When We Fall, After Hours, Close To Dawn — both probable top-10 entrants — and Everything Is Forgotten (likely top 20).

Also notable is the country's continued proclivity for soundtrack albums and best-ofs, with Jessica Mauboy's The Secret Daughter (Songs From The TV Series) looking at a rise into the top 40 alongside Cold Chisel's The Best Of Cold Chisel — All For You and Crowded House's The Very Very Best Of Crowded House, among other movers.
