Two were hospitalised but will make a full recovery

More Iron Maiden More Iron Maiden

The huge Boeing-747 that UK metal kings Iron Maiden have taken out on their world tour has been "badly damaged" in a crash at a Santiago, Chile airport.

The plane, lovingly called Ed Force One and occasionally flown by frontman Bruce Dickinson, was being taken to get refuelled when it crashed into the tow truck that was pulling it along. The band have posted that, "On making a turn the aircraft had no steering and collided with the ground tug badly damaging the undercarriage, two of the aircrafts engines and injuring two ground tug operators."

The two Chilean airport staff will "make a completely recovery" and Maiden have assured Chilean fans will not have to worry about any tour changes or cancellations — "believe me, we will get to you all on this tour one way or another wherever you are".

The band are reportedly looking for "a replacement 747 Ed Force One" — one that will hopefully fly the band into Australian airspace when they bring the Book Of Souls world tour to us in May.
