Hot Potato: The Story Of The Wiggles, a new documentary about Australia’s favourite children’s band, will have its world premiere at SXSW Sydney this October.
The film, directed by Sally Aitken, tracks the band’s meteoric ascendency in Australia and beyond and their eventual cultural reappraisal in recent years.
The film follows the original Wiggles – Anthony Field, Jeff Faff, Murray Cook and Greg Page – and their epic musical journey. SXSW Sydney lasts for weeks across the city’s music and entertainment venues, but the documentary will air during SXSW’s Sydney Screen Festival, which lasts from 15-21 October.
The documentary is touted to include never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from The Wiggles’ episodes, while members of the Wiggles themselves will participate in Q&A sessions and performances at SXSW Sydney.
According to a synopsis of Hot Potato, shared in October 2022 upon its original announcement, the feature-length documentary “is an ode to childhood and an homage to the power of friendship and dreams.”
Field added in a statement, “When we first formed The Wiggles more than three decades ago, our aim was to educate and inspire children through music, and that continues today.

“Looking through the archives has brought back so many incredible and emotional memories, from our first shows for 30 children to touring America and the world, playing to arenas. It’s been such an incredible and evolving journey, and we can’t wait to share our story with everyone.”
Coachella CEO Paul Tollett, Queer Eye star Tan France, Australia’s Barkaa, Slack co-founder Cal Henderson and AI expert Amy Webb, amongst many others, have been added to the impressive growing line-up of SXSW Sydney.
The festival also recently added 100 artists for the music side of the industry-led conference and showcase festival, including Barkaa, Flyana Boss (USA) and EKKSTACY (CAN), STUMPS, Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys and many more, making up the humongous roster of 400 artists set to perform.
As well as Barkaa, fellow local acts South Summit, Chanel Loren and Gut Health will perform alongside UK’s SORRY, South Korea’s ADOY and Lil Cherry, New Zealand’s Daily J, MELOWDOWNZ and Molly Payton, Indonesia’s Isyana Sarasvati and Malaysia’s Lunadira.
