In a sign that music is back, the team behind Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall and The Triffid are spreading their wings with the announcement of the Hindley Street Music Hall, a brand new 1800-capacity space in Adelaide.

The venue, situated at 149 Hindley Street is backed by multinational touring company Live Nation, Secret Sounds (promoters of Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festivals) and Adelaide based Five Four Entertainment. The project is being overseen by ex Powderfinger bassist John Collins (JC) who has successfully managed the operations’ Brisbane venues since 2014.

“I’m excited to be working on a new venue in a city I’ve always loved and to bring my experiences and passion to a new venue for Adelaide,” said JC. “With my partners, we are planning on building one of the best music halls right in the heart of Adelaide’s thriving entertainment district of Hindley Street.”

The venue is being pitched as the perfect transition for artists looking to move up from The Gov at 800 capacity but not yet ready for the 2000 capacity Thebarton Theatre.  The $6 million development is situated on the old site of the HQ nightclub which closed as the COVID 19 pandemic hit.

As one of the key voices urging government to assist the industry, Collins has successfully steered his Brisbane venues through the pandemic, with the Fortitude Music Hall open for merely months before its forced closure through the pandemic’s darkest hours.

The investment in Adelaide gives Live Nation two key stops on the national touring grid and adds to a portfolio of global venues under its control. The venue’s first ticketed event will be in August with an Adelaide Pub Choir event.
