WA’s stunning Margaret River region will come alive this weekend as part of new concert series Here Comes The Sun, featuring some of the state’s best acts performing over three days. We caught up with a few of the acts on the bill to chat the return of live music and who they’re pumped to see during the event.

What have you enjoyed most about returning to live music?

Which act/s on the line-up are you vibing the most right now?
“I mean obvi excited to see Tame Impala but it's gotta be our boys Set Mo. We have been playing a few shows with them and they kill it 60% of the time, every time.”

BERYL STREEP (SCARLETT STEVENS)
What have you enjoyed most about returning to live music?
“We’ve been so fortunate here in WA that we’ve been able to live life relatively normally which means we’ve been able to gig. Because of the travel restrictions this year it meant that a lot of our touring had to be regional so we got to get out of the city and meet amazing fans all over WA. Definitely reconnecting with people at shows and the rush you get from performing to a live crowd rather than a camera or phone has brought me so much joy and a real sense of connection in these crazy times. The pandemic has made me realise how much people turn to the arts in times of need and how music has the power to bring us together.”
Which act/s on the Here Comes The Sun line-up are you vibing the most right now?
“I’ll always be a huge Tame Impala fan, so I’m looking forward to seeing them play as the Tame Impala Sound System. I absolutely love the new album and I’m excited to see how they’ll bring those songs to life in the new live set up!”
GRIEVOUS BODILY CALM
What have you enjoyed most about returning to live music?
“We’re lucky enough in Perth to have not been affected too severely by the pandemic. We had a couple of months off to finish off our latest record and then it was straight back into gigging when venues opened up at a modified capacity. Playing live shows and interacting with an audience and each other on stage is such a huge part of why we play music in the first place. It feels very special to be able to perform and go out to live gigs at the moment and I think this has been tangibly felt at shows by performers and audiences.”
Which act/s on the line-up are you vibing the most right now?
“We’re really looking forward to catching the Tame Impala Sound System set. Very curious to see how their new line-up changes up their live show. We’ll also be front and centre for our mate DJ Sara T who’s been killing it recently and has established herself as one of the best selectors in town.”
SET MO
What have you enjoyed most about returning to live music?
“We've been fortunate to play a few shows this year already and it's been amazing. You forget how good it feels to just be out and dancing to loud music with a bunch of other people who are there to have a good time. There's something so real and tangible about going to see a show that can't be recreated through a live stream or otherwise.”
Which act/s on the line-up are you vibing the most right now?
“We've been touring with Crooked Colours this year and their live show is super slick, it's made us appreciate their music even more! And naturally, we're keen to see big Kev do his thing, been loving the latest Tame album.”
SHOCKONE
What have you enjoyed most about returning to live music?
“Playing music loud. The music I write really is primarily aimed at dance floors. So there was only so much that both myself and the audience could get from live streaming my sets on twitch. While it was a great substitute at the time, nothing compares to the experience of the sound physically hitting you in the chest. There were songs that I released early 2020, that I didn't get to play on a serious sound system until July. In some ways my music is quite utilitarian .. *dance* music.. for *dancing* so when people couldn't dance together it was a weird and shitty place to be in for a dance music producer.”
Which act/s on the line-up are you vibing the most right now?
“I'm really interested to see this new act Tame Impala, I've heard very promising things about them. I think if they keep at it, and really commit themselves to the craft they could have a big future ahead of them! Always great to see young up and comers getting a chance on the big stage.”
