New York City rockers Helmet announced their return to Australia back in September, but today, following a sold-out show in Melbourne, they’ve added another special event to their itinerary.

On Sunday, 26 April, Helmet will headline the one-off Betty Fest at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre. Commemorating their 1994 album, Betty, performing the album in its entirety for the final time, the band will be accompanied by a genre-bending local line-up that showcases their influence across decades—and the globe.

Joining Helmet at Betty Fest are Melbourne lo-fi rock outfit CIVIC and punks Lothario, Wollongong post-hardcore duo Chimers, heavy Castlemaine group DEAD, and Snake Thighs, an emerging riot grrrl act out of Melbourne. Doors will open at 2 pm, and the fun will continue all day long.

Betty is Helmet’s third album, released in 1994 via Interscope Records. Home to the hit single Milquetoast – which featured on The Crow soundtrack as Milktoast, as well as Biscuits for Smut and Wilma’s Rainbow, Betty is the group’s highest charting album in the US.

Tickets for Betty Fest and Helmet’s remaining Australian tour dates are available now via the David Roy Williams website.

Helmet have long held a loving relationship with their fans in Australia. Their forthcoming tour will draw on their extensive discography, including Betty, Aftertaste (1997), Size Matters (2004), Dead To The World (2016), and Left (2023). To this day, they remain a major force in rock music.

The band, formed by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton in 1989, last visited Australia in 2023 on their Best Of tour.
