Revered Ambient Music Legend Harold Budd Passes Away

“Feeling empty, shattered lost and unprepared for this.”

US ambient music legend Harold Budd has passed away, aged 84, following complications due to coronavirus.

Budd’s manager, Steve Takaki, confirmed his passing to Rolling Stone today, following a post on Facebook from Cocteau Twins member and frequent collaborator Robin Guthrie.

“A lot to digest,” Guthrie said. “Feeling empty, shattered lost and unprepared for this.”

Budd was a prolific artist who this year alone released a record with Guthrie, Another Flower, and also composed the music for Mark Ruffalo HBO miniseries I Know This Much Is True.

He was also a frequent collaborator with English music legend Brian Eno, with the duo first working on Budd’s 1978 release, The Pavilion Of Dreams, before a number of other projects in the years to follow.
