The pop punk legends block Aussie icon Peter Garrett
Seminal Californian pop punkers Good Charlotte have cemented their comeback with their post-hiatus record, Youth Authority, claiming first place on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Forming 20 years ago, they went on a hiatus in 2011, with brothers Joel and Benji Madden judging on The Voice and putting out a record before GC reformed last year and dropped single Makeshift Love in November in the lead up to album number seven.
The last time they debuted at #1 in Australia was with 2004's The Chronicles Of Life & Death.
Midweek figures showed a close gap between Youth Authority and Peter Garrett’s first solo album, A Version Of Now, but the Midnight Oil legend was blocked from #1, scoring a #3 debut, sitting just behind last week’s top-place act, The Avalanches, with their Wildflower.

Garrett’s first ‘solo’ show kicked off in WA during the week, with The Avalanches making their return to the Australian stage at a Splendour warm-up gig before hitting the festival last night.
Other notable debuts on the Albums Chart come from Emma Louise with Supercry (#14), Stonefield’s As Above, So Below (#19) and the soundtrack for the Ghostbusters reboot (#21), with Michael Kiwanuka's Love & Hate (#35), Steven Tyler's We're All Somebody From Somewhere (#37), Jeff Beck's Loud Hailer (#38), and NeedToBreathe's Hard Love (#46) also making an appearance.
Over on the Singles Chart, Katy Perry leads the charge with her Olympic hit Rise claiming #1, knocking In My Blood by The Veronicas down a place, while 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Girls Talk Boys, Britney Spears’ G-Eazy collab Make Me… and Snakehips’ Zayn feature Cruel also place.
