George Clinton Forced To Relinquish Classic Song Copyrights

US law suit takes four classic songs from the funk legend

Funk legend George Clinton touring Australia for Golden Plains next year - has been ordered by an America court to hand over copyrights to four of his classic songs in order to pay off a debt to former lawyers, TMZ reports.

The celebrity website reports that law firm Hendricks & Lewis have won the copyrights to pay off a $1.5 million ruling made in 2010 – of which Clinton paid only $340,000.

A Federal Judges has granted the firm the copyrights for Hardcore Jollies, The Electric Spanking Of War Babies, Uncle Jam Wants You and One Nation Under A Groove until the debts are paid off.

It is believed that the firm can “sell or use the music however it wants” to make up the difference in the money owed. Clinton has filed to reverse the decision.

Now in his '70s, Clinton is arguably the most influential funk musicians of all time and still tours with a full band. His Parliament-Funkadelic band bound for Australia is believed to be 22-members strong.
