Frenzal RhombFrenzal Rhomb have never done things like everybody else. And that goes for anniversary tours, too.
From August to November, the beloved Aussie rockers will embark on an expansive tour across the country, in which they commemorate the 23rd – not the 20th or 25th – anniversary of their sixth album, Sans Souci.
Beginning at Adelaide’s The Gov on Thursday, 13 August, the tour continues throughout most corners of Australia, with dates in Canberra, Jindabyne, Barwon Heads, Melbourne, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, Perth, Bunbury, Margaret River, Duncraig, Sydney, Newcastle, Byron Bay, Woolloongabba, Caloundra, Hobart, and concludes at the Forth Pub in Forth, Tasmania, on Friday, 20 November.
Tickets to all shows are available now.
Released by Epitaph Records in Australia in April 2003 and Fat Wreck Chords internationally, the album features classics such as Bucket Bong, I Went Out With A Hippy And Now I Love Everyone Except For Her, and Cocksucker. Plus, there’s a cheeky little trouble-making song: Russell Crowe’s Band.
“Here at Frenzal Rhomb, the number 23 has always been important to us. 23 pairs of human chromosomes, William Burroughs’ 23 enigma, Psalm 23 in the bible, ‘the Lord is my shepherd’; we’ve always been big with shepherds,” the band commented in a statement.

They continued, “Actually, that’s all nonsense, we just missed the 20th, and the world may not make it until the 25th, so this year we’re celebrating the 23rd anniversary of Sans Souci!
“The difficult sixth album, Sans Souci saw us back with Camel producer Eddie Ashworth for sixteen sweet servings of shrewd social commentary slid inside some superb punk pop skins, including the green-tinged morality tale of ‘Bucket Bong’, the complicated relationship drama of ‘I Went Out With A Hippy And Now I Love Everyone Except For Her’, even trying our hand at sports metal with ‘Punisher’.
“There was the Kernaghan-esque ‘Looking Good’, the Gastro-rock of ‘Ballchef’, and that song about Russell Crowe’s band we’ve been advised by our lawyers not to talk about.
“And heaps more! And we’re gonna play them all* on the Frenzal Rhomb Sans Souci 23rd Anniversary Tour. A marquee event! And it’s still French for ‘no worries’. Get tickets now before Russell Crowe’s lawyers get back in touch!”
Of course, Frenzal Rhomb ended the statement by advising fans not to actually expect them to play Sans Souci in its entirety.
“Look, we may not make it through the whole album, and we probably won’t play it in order,” they admitted. “So, don’t go getting all weird and complain like that one person did on the Camel tour. We’ll give it all a red hot go, though.”
