TurnstileBrady Ebert, the former guitarist of the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly hitting William Yates, the father of the band’s frontman, Brendan Yates, with his car.
The Baltimore Banner reported that on 29 March, police discovered William Yates outside of his home suffering from “trauma to his lower extremities,” including a broken bone that was protruding from his leg.
William Yates’s daughter, her husband, and their children were at the home at the time of the alleged incident. Family members reported that Ebert approached the home, honked, swore, and drove off before returning and allegedly attacking William Yates.
A police report added that Yates threw a rock at Ebert’s car, who then drove into him as he tried to run away. Ebert reportedly returned to the house one more time to tell Yates that he “deserved it.”

The Guardian reports Ebert was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault on 31 March. After insisting upon his innocence in court, Montgomery County District Court Judge Sherri D Koch described Ebert’s actions as “violent” and “targeted.”
Ebert co-founded Turnstile in 2010. He departed the band in 2022—a decision about which the band has remained vague until this alleged attack.
Turnstile issued a statement about Ebert’s actions and departure from the band (via Stereogum), in which they cited his alleged “consistent pattern of harmful behaviour” that affected “himself, the band, and the community.” They also claimed that they’ve set boundaries with their former guitarist when “healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.”
Their statement continued, “In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further.
“This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
The band’s statement concluded, “We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
Last year, Ebert formed the band S.E.T. (Self-Evident Truth). However, The Guardian notes that he was kicked out of the group after sharing allegations about his former band’s finances and claiming that his ex-bandmates had taken out restraining orders against him.
Earlier this year, Turnstile took home their first Grammy Awards. Their song, BIRDS, won the Best Metal Performance award, and their 2025 LP, NEVER ENOUGH, won Best Rock Album. NEVER ENOUGH is the band’s first album that doesn’t feature Ebert and instead features Meg Mills on guitar.
