Foo Fighters To Headline Three Huge Festivals This Year

Foo Fighters weren’t exaggerating when they told fans they’d be back this year. The famous rock band will headline three massive US music festivals – Boston Calling, Bonnaroo, and Sonic Temple, the latter of which hasn’t hosted a line-up in three years due to COVID-19.

At Boston Calling (26-28 May), the other headliners joining Foo Fighters are Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alanis Morissette, The Lumineers, Paramore, and Queens Of The Stone Age. Further down the line-up, The National, Niall Horan, The Flaming Lips, rising star Fletcher, Bleachers, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, 070 Shake, Genesis Owusu, and many more will impress festivalgoers before Foo Fighters take the stage. The Everlong group were supposed to headline the event last year, but Nine Inch Nails stepped in their place after they cancelled all remaining 2022 tour dates.

While Foo Fighters haven’t announced who will replace the late Taylor Hawkins – who tragically passed away in March last year, it could be any of the drummers who performed at the star-studded tribute concerts to Hawkins, including Rufus Taylor of Queen/The Darkness and Roger Taylor’s son, Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Jon Theodore (Queens Of The Stone Age), session legend Josh Freese, blink-182’s Travis Barker, and Hawkins’ teenage son Shane.

In June (15-18) this year, Foo Fighters will headline Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival alongside Kendrick Lamar, Odesza, Zeds Dead, and Liquid Stranger. Portugal. The Man, AFI, Fleet Foxes, The Music cover artist Rina Sawayama, Lil Nas X, Korn, Pixies, Girl In Red, and The Beths will join them, with many more artists filling up the undercard.

Sonic Temple (25-28 May), which shares many acts with the Welcome To Rockville festival a week before, returns to Columbus, Ohio, with headlining sets by Foo Fighters, Tool, Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold, Queens Of The Stone Age, KISS, Rob Zombie, and Deftones. Pretty huge and totally fitting for Foo Fighters. Bullet For My Valentine, Pennywise; I Prevail, Knocked Loose, Sleeping With Sirens, Trivium, alt-rock heroes Jawbreaker, and heaps more join the headliners.

On New Year’s Eve, Foo Fighters announced that they would continue but are “going to be a different band going forward”.

Their full statement read:

“As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us.

“Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years, our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were – and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.

“We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again – and we will soon – he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night.”
