Foo Fighters just played a one-off show in Launceston, but it seems that the US rockers are already plotting their return to Australia.

In case you missed it: on Saturday (24 January), the veteran rock band performed their first Tasmanian show in over a decade, and their first-ever concert in Launceston. The 22-song set consisted of hits from across the group’s career, including All My Life, Times Like These, The Pretender, Monkey Wrench, Best Of You, and Everlong.

The evening also saw frontman Dave Grohl tease more Foo Fighters shows Down Under, which could take place later this year.

“This won’t be the last time you see us,” Grohl told rapturous fans mid-set at UTAS Stadium. “We’ll be back here sooner than you think… and it’s before my next birthday.”

Grohl’s birthday is 14 January, so the rocker suggested that the band could return to Australia before the end of the year, or perhaps in early January 2027.

While no official tour dates have been confirmed, after the Launceston show, the band posted a teaser on social media hinting at upcoming shows and shared a sign-up link for updates.

“EPIC NIGHT TASMANIA!!! See you again soon???” the band wrote, also posting an Australian flag emoji and this sign-up link.

In addition to teasing more shows, Grohl informed fans that Foo Fighters had completed work on their twelfth album, the follow-up to 2023’s But Here We Are and the first to feature new drummer Ilan Rubin.

“We might have a whole new record of fucking songs that we just finished the other day,” he teased.

Since Rubin joined Foo Fighters last year, the band released a new single, Asking For A Friend, and surprise-released a live EP, Are Playing Where??? Vol. 1, exclusively available on Bandcamp and starring Rubin on drums.

Upon announcing the one-off Tasmanian shows last month, Grohl said, “We have a very special relationship with Tasmania — as we do with all of Australia. To come down and have a special night is amazing… even though we’re literally flying down for 48 hours.”
