"The Flying Scotsman has always been a pub that our group has kept an eye on so when it became available, we jumped at the chance to acquire it."

Popular Perth live venue The Flying Scotsman was one of the first to announce a permanent closure due to the COVID pandemic back in April, however it appears that the beloved pub is set to make a comeback.

As So Perth reports, WA hospitality company, Three Pound Group, has acquired the Mount Lawley venue and will execute some major renovations over the next year.

"The Flying Scotsman has always been a pub that our group has kept an eye on so when it became available, we jumped at the chance to acquire it and add it to our portfolio," Three Pound Group General Manager and Co-owner, Tim McLernon, said.

"We think it complements our existing assets very well and we know that we will be able to turn it into a venue that will suit the local community.

“Once renovations have been completed the owners believe The Flying Scotsman will morph into a 'Must Go To' destination within the Perth hospitality scene."

The announcement comes after The Flying Scotsman was forced to shut down on 23 March in response to the coronavirus restrictions.

Owner Chris Vivian told ABC Radio at the time, “We tried unsuccessfully to renew our lease with a fair rent and fair lease.

"That all came to an end when he (the landlord) decided that at the end of our lease, which is the end of April, he is going to close the pub down, leave it to sit there until COVID-19 goes away and then offer it up for lease again."
