"We will hold on to our memories."

Popular Perth live venue and pub The Flying Scotsman has announced it will not open its doors again after the COVID-19 outbreak forced its closure.

A statement posted on the Mount Lawley venue's Facebook page reads, "During these tough times it seems the landlord does not want us to renew the lease".

"We will hold on to our memories of the Scotto forever and what an amazing ride it has been over the last twenty years."

The announcement comes after The Flying Scotsman was forced to shut down on 23 March in response to the coronavirus restrictions.

Speaking on ABC Radio this week, owner Chris Vivian explained the situation between the venue and its landlord.

“We tried unsuccessfully to renew our lease with a fair rent and fair lease," Vivian said.

"That all came to an end when he (the landlord) decided that at the end of our lease, which is the end of April, he is going to close the pub down, leave it to sit there until COVID-19 goes away and then offer it up for lease again."
