"What’s with the AI fans, Will?"

Hollywood star and rapper Will Smith is in the spotlight—but not exactly for the best reason.
Smith officially announced his return to music last year, but in March, he announced a tour that would stop in Europe, Morocco and the United Kingdom in support of his new album, Based On A True Story. The album marks his first full-length since the release of his album Lost And Found, released in 2005.
The Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It rapper is currently on said tour, and earlier this month, he shared a promotional video that’s received an abundance of online attention, with fans alleging that Will Smith used AI for the video… and the video clips haven’t been rendered well.
In fact, audience members pictured in the video have blurred faces and possess extra hands. Worse still, NME notes that a man in the crowd holding the sign which read “‘You Can Make It’ helped me survive cancer. THX Will,” has his hands blurring into the poster. Plus, the whole thing just looks fake.
Smith captioned the post, “My favourite part of tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too.”

The actor and rapper hasn’t responded for comment after the video has essentially gone viral, with fans pointing out the alleged use of AI all over the internet.
“Why are these AI people in the crowd? That’s embarrassing,” wrote an Instagram user. They weren’t alone, with more commenters writing things like, “Imagine using AI and generating a sign about Cancer. This is absolute 🤡🤡🤡 behavior,” “What’s with the AI fans Will?” and “Half of the footage is AI.”

Will Smith’s latest album, Based On A True Story, was released in late March. Smith described it as an album about finding hope in difficult times and followed the mantra, “Dance in your darkest moments.”
