15 years since their last headline show in Naarm/Melbourne, revered rockers Eddy Current Suppression Ring have announced their return with a free headline gig at Federation Square.

Taking place at the CBD location on Friday, September 26th as part of the Grand Final public holiday, the show – organised by Fed Square – will see the group returning to the stage for the first time in nine years.

Having first formed in the early ‘00s, Eddy Current Suppression Ring became mainstays of the local Melbourne music scene, with their no-frills approach to rock becoming emblematic of the city’s sound at the start of the millennium.

Following a self-titled record in 2006, Primary Colours in 2008 won the band the Australian Music Prize, before they effectively bade us farewell with 2010’s Rush To Relax. Their last Australian show before the hiatus was a headline show at The Palace in Melbourne, before a few US shows wrapped it all up.

A brief run of reunion dates in 2016 took place as part of Golden Plains and Dark MOFO, while 2019’s comeback album All In Good Time was planned to be followed by an Aussie tour, though a noted global pandemic stepped in to take care of that.

Now, following the rapid sell-out of their new split 7” single Shapes And Forms this month, the iconic Victorian group will be making their triumphant return in September with a massive gig in the heart of the city.

“Eddy Current Suppression Ring is a band woven into the fabric of Melbourne’s music history. Raw, fearless and utterly electrifying live,” said Sarah Tutton, Fed Square Director of Programming.

“We’re delighted to welcome them back to the city for what promises to be a truly unforgettable night at Fed Square, continuing our commitment to creating unmissable free, all-ages events that celebrate the best of local and international music, right in the heart of Melbourne.”

Joining Eddy Current Suppression Ring on the line-up is New York MC, producer, and psychedelic wizard EDAN, who will deliver a performance dubbed "part rap show, part spaced-out beat odyssey," while Melbourne-based groovelords Wrong Way Up will open the night.
