Spiro Boursine, the founder of dance festival Earthcore, has died while in police custody in Melbourne.
As reported by The Age, Earthcore's former general manager Gary 'Binaural' Neal "confirmed the sad news with Mr Boursine's family members on Saturday."
It's believed that Boursine (who is also known as Boursinos) was placed in handcuffs by police who had been called to Antique Bar in Elsternwick "following reports of a man assaulting patrons at the premises about 2.15am" on Saturday.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman, Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach, has said in a statement that a man (who's name police will not confirm) was being held down by patrons in the bar when police arrived at the scene.
Seach continued to say that the man then lost consciousness, with police attempting to revive him until Ambulance Victoria arrived. The man then died at the scene.
It's been advised that a post mortem examination will take place to determine the cause of death, while the homicide squad (overseen by the Professional Standards Command) will investigate the death.

Boursine launched Earthcore in 1993. A post made on the festival's Facebook page last night reads "The show must go on", suggesting that the November 2018 Earthcore event in Victoria will attempt to go ahead as planned.
