"He is a great artist, and we love him... but that's as far as it goes."
Bluesfest director Peter Noble has shut down any speculation that Jay Z will be performing at the Byron Bay festival in 2018.
Rumours that the rap legend would be on the line-up began after Noble confirmed in a recent newsletter that a 2018 headliner was booked, saying "That only leaves around 99 artists to go", which many took as reference to Jay Z's iconic track, 99 Problems.
However, in a Bluesfest newsletter released yesterday, Noble dismissed the rumours.
"I'm not sure what the big rumour about Jay Z playing Bluesfest was about," he wrote.

Though the news is obviously disappointing (especially given HOW GOOD Jay Z's new album 4:44 is), Bluesfest 2018 looks to be building very quickly.
"Negotiations are in full swing, and we are looking like we'll be confirming more artists this week," Noble confirmed.
"It's coming together nicely, with some wonderful artists making the right noises about playing."
This year's bill featured the likes of Santana, Mary J Blige, Nas, Patti Smith and The Doobie Brothers.
