The world's most lovable rock star is making his directorial debut.

Sound City is a new documentary film directed by Nirvana and Foo Fighters members Dave Grohl that looks to tell the story of the legendary Sound City Studios, which is located in the Van Nuys district of Los Angeles. Today it has been announced that the film will premiere at the famous Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah with Grohl himself and a number of other special guests to be in attendance.

Grohl purchased the Neve 8028 console from Sound City last year and it was at that point that the idea to make a film about the studio struck him. He has a particualrly close connection with the studio as it is where he and his Nirvana bandmates made the classic 1991 recordNevermind, considered by many to be one of the most important rock records of its time.

The studio was initially opened in 1970 with Neil Young's After The Gold Rush the first record to be made between its walls. A huge number of classic records from throughout history have been made there; everything from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Dio's Holy Diver, Tom Petty's Damn The Torpedos, Weezer's Pinkerton and Red Hot Chili's Peppers' One Hot Minute, to name a scant few.

Grohl has managed to secure interviews with some seriously impressive names for the film, the majority of them are listed in this trailer.
