Fifth season is on the way.

Just a month after it was axed by ABC, cult US country music TV series Nashville will be hitting screens again soon thanks to a social media campaign led by the cast and fans, calling for the show to picked up by a new network.

As Tennessean reports, the popular drama program will return for a fifth season to screen on CMT and streamed on Hulu.

CMT announced in a statement this week that the season will include 22 episodes, while the new deal will also see Hulu have streaming rights to the episodes the day after they air.

"CMT heard the fans. The wave of love and appreciation they have unleashed for Nashville has been overwhelming,” CMT President Brian Philips said.

"Nashville is a perfect addition to our evolving lineup of big music specials, documentaries and original series. We see our fans and ourselves in this show, and we will treasure it like no other network. Nashville belongs on CMT."

The hashtag #BringBackNashville has been trending on Twitter since Nashville was cancelled and the social media campaign has proven to be a massive success as show producer Lionsgate made good on their promise to find a new home for the series.

"The social media demand to bring the show back has been overwhelming, and we are thrilled to be able to get to 100 episodes, which has always been the goal to help give the show longevity in syndication," CVC President and CEO Butch Spyridon said.

The entire cast is expected to return for the new season which includes Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Chris Carmack and Aussie singer Clare Bowen.
