Eddy Current Suppression Ring Release Surprise New Album 'In Light Of Recent Events'

'In Light of Recent Events' marks the band's first full-length in seven years.

Melbourne rockers Eddy Current Suppression Ring have returned with their first full-length in seven years.

Released on Tuesday (26 May) exclusively on Bandcamp, In Light Of Recent Events is the long-awaited follow-up to All In Good Time, which dropped in 2019, as well as their Shapes and Forms EP, which they surprise released last year. Check out the tracklist below and listen to the album here.

The album contains eleven tracks and arrives amidst a period of surprises from the Melbourne band.

Next month, Eddy Current Suppression Ring will perform as part of Vivid Sydney’s free, popular Tumbalong Nights program at Darling Harbour for their first Sydney show in more than 15 years. The show takes place after the band played their first show in nine years and their first in Melbourne in 15 years last September, performing a free headline gig at Federation Square on AFL Grand Final weekend.

Along with their reunion show last year, Eddy Current Suppression Ring dropped the new EP, Shapes and Forms.

Since their formation in the early 2000s, the band became a mainstay of the local Melbourne music scene, with their no-frills approach to rock emblematic of the city’s sound at the start of the millennium.

Following a self-titled record in 2006, 2008’s Primary Colours won Eddy Current Suppression Ring the prestigious Australian Music Prize, before they effectively bade fans farewell with 2010’s Rush To Relax. Their last Australian show before the hiatus was a headline show at The Palace in Melbourne, followed by a few US shows that wrapped it all up.

A brief run of reunion dates in 2016 took place as part of Golden Plains and Dark Mofo, while 2019’s comeback album All In Good Time was planned to be followed by an Aussie tour, though a noted global pandemic led to its unsurprising cancellation.
