More Coldplay More Coldplay

Coldplay recently wrapped up their Music Of The Spheres shows in Melbourne and Sydney, but it turns out that they weren’t done sharing surprises with their Australian fans.

On their second night at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, the British superstars shocked fans when they welcomed Ralph Macchio, star of The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, onto the stage. Together, the band and Macchio launched into a rendition of Coldplay’s recently released track, also called The Karate Kid, from the deluxe edition of their latest album, Moon Music.

As The Music reported, some fans who had been following Coldplay’s moves throughout the Australian run believed that the band were filming a music video for The Karate Kid, and Ralph Maccio would feature in the clip.

Those fans were correct, with Coldplay dropping a music video for the track overnight. Filmed in Melbourne, the clip features the Karate Kid himself busking across the city, including in front of the State Library of Victoria and by Marvel Stadium, skyscrapers behind him.

The end of the video culminates in that now-infamous footage we’ve seen of Macchio on stage at Marvel Stadium with Coldplay, serenading 50,000+ fans with the band’s new ballad.

In a live review of the band’s first show at Marvel Stadium on 30 October, The Music’s Michael Prebeg said, “Coldplay kick off their Australian tour for the first time ever without their bass guitar player, Guy Berryman, but they still deliver a show that’s out of this world.”

Following the band’s Melbourne dates, it was revealed that Coldplay had broken Marvel Stadium’s attendance record for a band at the venue previously held by AC/DC. Across four shows at the venue, the British band drew over 227,000 punters to their concerts.

Coldplay currently hold the bronze medal for concert attendance records at the venue, having been only just beaten out by Pink, whose four dates across February and March this year resulted in 228,000 fans.
