The Coldplay achievements keep on rolling in, with the group having officially broken an attendance record following the completion of the Melbourne leg of their Aussie tour.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) today, Marvel Stadium posted a brief recap of the English outfit’s recent residency at the venue, announcing total crowd size of 227k was a new record.

“Coldplay have officially broken our all-time largest attendance record for a band at Marvel Stadium,” the venue wrote. “With 227k people attending across the four Music of The Spheres World Tour shows held at the Stadium.”

This record does need a little bit of contextualising, however. Currently, the record for the largest single concert at the stadium belongs to Adele, who brought in 77,327 punters to her show on March 19th, 2017. Combined with her gig the previous night, her residency brings the total to 152,300.

When it comes to multiple shows, the record still belongs to Ed Sheeran, whose four-night stand between March 9th to March 12th in 2018 brought in a total of 256,622 audience members.

However, while Sheeran’s record is for a single artist, Coldplay have now broken the attendance record for a band at the venue with 227,000. Previously, that record belonged to AC/DC, who brought in 181,495 fans across three nights in 2010.

Coldplay currently hold the bronze medal for concert attendance records at the venue, having been only just beaten out by Pink, whose four dates across February and March this year resulted in 228,000 fans.

Coldplay’s Melbourne shows wrapped up on Sunday, November 3rd with a fourth show which rounded out their first tour of the country since 2016 (notwithstanding a pair of standalone shows in Perth last year).

“We haven’t been to Melbourne and Sydney and Brisbane for quite some time,” Martin told the Melbourne crowd, per news.com.au. “I’m going to tell it, f**k it.”

Revealing that he read a negative review of Coldplay’s concert at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in December 2016, Martin continued, “The reason we haven’t played [here] for quite some time is, I made the mistake eight years ago, I looked at the press, and a gentleman wrote an article saying that he lived next to the stadium, and he said we ruined his night.

“So, I was like, ‘Oh s**t’.”

Coldplay will wrap up their Australian tour with a pair of shows in Sydney this week.
