Carcass bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker has confirmed the recording lineup for the band’s first album in 17 years.
During a recent interview with Decibel, Walker announced he’s being joined by Bill Steer (guitars) and Daniel Wilding (drums) in the studio. Despite previous reports, Heaven Shall Burn drummer Matthias Voigt will not perform on the new album.
“For live we’ll obviously add another guitarist—we have someone in mind but we are not interested in a ‘name’ player,” explained Walker.
On the direction of the new album, Walker had the following to say:
"We’ve taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it’s in our blood, but it’s no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I’ve jokingly christened some parts ‘Trad Blast’ and some ‘Death Sleaze’… don’t think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album—we’re setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on [laughs].”
The new Carcass album was produced by Colin Richardson (Fear Factory, Napalm Death, Slipknot) and is due for release in 2013. More details to come.
Carcass reunited in 2007. Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson toured as part of the reunion shows, but have since returned to their main band, Arch Enemy.
Carcass released their last album Swansong in 1996.
