"We’ve built a beautiful community around this venue and we all feel so grateful to have been a part of it."
After almost four years of operation, Cake Wines has announced it will close its Redfern Cellar Door this month.
With last drinks on Saturday 15 June, co-founder Glen Cassidy wrote that "despite the ongoing success of the Cellar Door across all parts, it's become clear that we have outgrown the space".
"We're at the end of our first-term lease and felt that this was the time to move on and pursue other opportunities for Cake Wines around the country and world," Cassidy said in a statement.
“We’ve built a beautiful community around this venue and we all feel so grateful to have been a part of it. To us, the Cellar Door was a real representation of wine and culture coming together in an unintimidating, welcoming way. We came in with a purpose and we stuck to our guns, I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved here, I'm also incredibly thankful to the people of Sydney for responding the way they have.
"Over the years we have built a reputation for activating some super interesting locations and will continue doing so... laneways, rooftops, basketball courts, the odd shitty loading dock. We love this stuff and will continue looking for ways to launch new ideas that give back to the life of the city."
The Cake Wines Cellar Door will close on 15 June following a number of Vivid events and a "finale event" with details still to be announced.
