Three events this April and May to work those multicultural proclivities of yours
The Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC) has announced its Autumn World Music Cafe program for 2017, featuring an array of awesome international and local artists.
Kicking off with its first instalment on 22 April, the World Music Cafe will mix world, urban, jazz, traditional and contemporary genres to deliver a spellbinding spread of sounds, replete with a complementary dedicated artist development program led by freshly minted co-ordinator Simon Mula.
Spread across three events from late April through May, the program includes the Asian Sounds: New Generation event, which features Malaysia-born, Brisbane-based singer-songwriter May Lyn alongside emergent Brissy songstress Noralyn and QMA-nominated muso Matt Hsu (of The Mouldy Lovers), as well as a tribute to K-Pop, featuring US sentsation Crystal Yi (Lee So Jung), who some may recognise as the winner of the fifth season of K-Pop Star, supported by Korean-Australian performance group K.A.T.U and local J-Pop/K-Pop dance collective Paradise Crew.
There will also be an industry crash-course called Get Prep'd, a free event encompassing four professional development workshops canvassing topics such as artist business requirements, arts facilitation, marketing and music royalties. Held on 24 May, that think-tank will include a jam night, so bring your instruments and your best ideas for an evening of productive industry discussion and good, old-fashioned communal fun.
