Crooked ColoursCrooked Colours, the project of Western Australian artist Philip Slabber, is having a moment after sharing a hype track for the AFL team he supports, the Fremantle Dockers.
Slabber unveiled a teaser for the song on Monday (10 August), telling fans that he’s a devoted supporter of the Fremantle Dockers, who are having an impressive season this year, and he wanted to give them some extra inspiration ahead of their game against the Adelaide Crows on Friday night.
Since he uploaded the video, the team have followed Crooked Colours on Instagram and asked him if he’d like to play the song for the first time on Friday. On Tuesday, Slabber revealed that Freo Dream, his ode to the Freo Faithful, will be premiered at Optus Stadium in Perth tomorrow night.

The viral moment couldn’t come at a better time for Slabber, who releases the new Crooked Colours album, Dirt Road Gold, next Friday (21 August).

Described as a “dreamy, timeless and euphoric” collection of songs, Dirt Road Gold follows previous albums Vera (2017), triple j Feature Album Langata (2019) and another triple j Feature Album, Tomorrows (2022).
“This record came from a pretty transitional place in my life,” Slabber explained in a statement. He continued, “A lot changed — not just musically, but personally too.
“Stepping into this next chapter as a solo project meant I had to really sit with myself and figure out what I actually wanted to say. There’s a kind of honesty that comes with that, but also a bit of vulnerability.”
He added, “The vision for this album was to create something that feels honest to where I’m at right now, but still connected to the DNA of Crooked Colours. It’s not about reinventing everything - it’s about evolving it. Letting it breathe, letting it grow. At its core, this record is about change - and learning to be okay with it.”
