The former frontman of The Chemist has new goods to share
Multi-instrumentalist and former The Chemist frontman Benjamin Witt has been squirrelled away in recent times putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming solo album, Future Reset, and is understandably keen to start sharing the fruits of his labours.
To that end, the WA muso has peeled back the veil on new single Dead Fish, the first track to be taken from the upcoming full-length, itself due for release in the coming months.
A layered, jaunty tune that seems to take equal cues from disparate music-makers such as Beck and Cornelius — not to mention its overt west African overtones and influence from avant-garde guitarist Fred Frith — Dead Fish was recorded and produced by Witt, with Andy Lawson (Debaser) handling mixing and William Bowden (Gotye, Hermitude, Empire Of The Sun) piloting mastering duties.
It's not long at all until Witt is able to road-test the track, along with its cohorts and predecessors; he's on tour supporting Koi Child, and you can catch him at Northcote Social Club, Melbourne, tomorrow (17 March); Newtown Social Club, Sydney, on Saturday 19 March; or The J Shed, Fremantle, on Saturday 2 April. As a bonus, he'll be at Perth's Rosemount Hotel on Saturday 30 April supporting The Drones.
