Swedish heavy metal stars Avatar are returning to Australia this August, today announcing their highly anticipated return.
Avatar made their Australian debut in August 2023, 22 years after their formation in 2001. During that run, they played for just three nights in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. This time, they’ll perform in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, plus make their New Zealand debut.
The tour begins at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Wednesday, 26 August. The excitement continues at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Friday, 28 August, Sydney’s Manning Bar on Saturday, 29 August, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Sunday, 30 August, and concludes at Auckland’s Powerstation on Tuesday, 1 September.
Pre-sale tickets will be available on Friday, 27 March, at 9 am local time. The general sale commences on Monday, 30 March, at 9 am local time. You can find ticketing information at The Phoenix.
Avatar are currently touring in support of their tenth album, Don’t Go In The Forest, released in October 2025. The record is the follow-up to 2023’s hugely successful Dance Devil Dance, which spawned the band’s first Billboard Mainstream Rock #1 single with The Dirt I’m Buried In.
Meanwhile, in Australia, Dance Devil Dance debuted at #1 in metal, #1 in rock, and #6 overall on the Australian iTunes charts.
In a recent interview with Loudwire, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Johannes Eckerström expressed pride about the group’s tenth album.

“[It] sounds weird, but it’s like with Dance Devil Dance... Because I was pleased with it, here comes the letting go part, and that’s, ‘Okay, I’m bored. Next,’” he explained.
Eckerström continued, “I imagine if I would have felt that we failed to some degree in achieving what we set out to do, I don’t think I would get to be bored with it. [...] I feel like, once again, with this album, we achieved something.”
