Australian Idol is coming to a close next Sunday, with the Grand Finale shaping up to be a strong one.
After this weekend’s great performances, the votes came in, and three contestants were chosen by dedicated watchers for the top three: 23-year-old Royston Sagigi-Baira, 15-year-old Phoebe Stewart, and 20-year-old Josh Hannan.
Last night’s episode was brutal, as three beloved singers were eliminated so close to the final: 19-year-old Anya Hynninen, 24-year-old Ben Sheehy, and 16-year-old Amali Dimond had to say goodbye.
Kicking off this Sunday’s show with a group performance of I’m Good (Blue) by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, the top six went on to their solo performances.
Royston performed the 80s power ballad; I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner, while his fellow grand finalists, Phoebe, hit the stage with a moving performance of Lost Without You by Freya Ridings, and Josh performed Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley. Check out the performances HERE.
“I can’t believe this. This is crazy!” Royston said upon being announced as a grand finalist. “This is a testament [to the fact] that no matter where you come from, as long as you work hard, you can follow your dreams, and they can come true.”
“Thank you, everyone, for taking the time out of your life to appreciate music, the show and me. And I’m really happy I’m here. Thank you,” Phoebe added.
“It’s a bit emotional,” Josh said. “Everyone who voted for me. It is an absolute dream for me to be here.”
The winner of Australian Idol 2023 will earn a recording contract with Sony Music Australia and $100,000 in prize money.
Next Sunday, on the Grand Finale, Harry Connick Jr and Jessica Mauboy will perform exclusively.
