Melbourne/Naarm-based artist REDD. has shared a heartwarming video on social media after their song, Messy, was featured in the popular new Amazon Prime series, Off Campus.

Messy plays during a scene of an ice hockey game in the series, in which REDD. remarks about how they can’t believe how “physical” the sport is. Then, like a 2000s coming-of-age film, the song picks up in volume, bringing a huge smile to REDD.’s face.

“That’s so dope; that’s so weird hearing my song,” the singer excitedly said. “Just makes you feel so good. That’s it, how crazy!”

In the caption, REDD. wrote, “LOGAN FTWWWW 😋🌟 slight spoilerrrr sorry but my song is in @offcampusonprime if you haven’t had a chance to go watch ‘Off Campus’ do it! This will all make so much more sense.”

You can watch the reaction video below.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Australia, actor Josh Heuston – who’s Australian and stars in the series – remarked that it was important to feature Australian music to reflect his character’s background.

“When we made Justin Australian, I was saying all of the music influences from him have to be Australian,” he said. “Otherwise, it makes no sense for him to have the accent. Like, you’d have to be influenced if you’ve grown up in Australia long enough to have an accent.”

Last August, Messy was added as a bonus track to REDD.’s debut mixtape RAUNCH. The song accompanied their East Coast tour and BIGSOUND debut.

Messy is a pop-punk number co-written and produced with Stephen Mowat (Gretta Ray, Tyne-James Organ) and mixed by Lars Stalfors (Role Model, The Dare, Lucy Dacus). REDD. said of the track: “One of my favourite things to do in the studio is write a song in the last 10-15 mins and to see / hear what comes from it.”

They continued, “Usually chaotic and a lot of fun; ‘MESSY.’ wasn’t anything different. I got the demo out in 15 minutes and decided to come back through and record it live. It was just screaming for the live energy. It was my first time recording a whole song live in the studio, so it was really cool to see how it was all done.”
