“Taylor Swift got some help from some brilliant local talent.”
Aussie artist Keanu Torres, aka producer Keanu Beats, features on new Taylor Swift album Midnights, which is shattering records across the world.
The Melbourne-born, Gold Coast-based talent is credited as co-writer and producer on album cut Karma, although he didn’t actually hear the song until the album dropped.
No stranger to working with big names - previously contributing to tracks from Beyoncé, Denzel Curry and more - Torres told Sydney Morning Herald that he had to sign an NDA early on in the process and knew very little about what was happening.
Swift shouted out Torres in a Tweet when the album dropped, alongside Lana Del Rey, Zoë Kravitz and more, stating she was so “lucky” to have worked with him. She also praised Grammy-winning producer Sounwave in the post, who is the one who brought Torres onto the project.
Torres revealed that he made the sample at home in Melbourne in 2019, sent it to Sounwave “and didn’t really think anything of it” as it wasn’t initially intended for use by one of the biggest artists or album releases in the world.

“Then, at some point this year, he contacted me and confirmed we were on the new Taylor Swift album,” he said.
“We had to sign NDAs, weren’t allowed to speak on it at all. But I mean, I didn’t even know the track name until it came out, or what it sounded like, or anything.”
APRA AMCOS praised Torres' efforts in a post earlier today: “We couldn't be more excited that Taylor Swift got some help from some brilliant local talent.”
Torres also worked on OneFour’s My City, which features The Kid LAROI and took out Most Performed Hip Hop/Rap Work at the 2022 APRA Awards.
Last week, Midnights debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, while nine of its songs occupied the Top 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart, which set a new record.
It also quickly surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, becoming the fastest album in history to do so.
