American pop star Ariana Grande has a new album on the way, and she’s just dropped an exciting teaser, saying that the record is “a little feral.”

Grande announced the forthcoming album, petal, last week (28 April). With a release date of Friday, 31 July, petal is the highly anticipated follow-up to the Problem hitmaker’s 2024 album, eternal sunshine.

Per a press release, petal has been described as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.” Grande discussed the concept further in a recent Instagram post.

In a video she posted online, Grande said that petal is about “breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments—whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me.”

She added, “It was a writing experiment for me to use that as a template [so that] I could be talking about something, and fans could use it however they want and apply it to their own life.”

Grande also noted that the album is “a little feral as well. It's definitely from a place that I have been too shy or polite to tap into before, and this kind of just feels like, ‘Fuck it!’”

The first single from the album, hate that i made you love me, arrives on Friday, 29 May.

Already, Grande has described the song as “one of my favorite songs i’ll ever write.” She co-produced the track along with two of her most frequent collaborators, Ilya Salmanzadeh and the “one and only” Max Martin.

You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

With petal, Grande returns to music following her success on the big screen in Wicked. And this November, she’ll appear in the latest instalment of the Meet the Parents franchise, Focker-in-Law, alongside Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Robert De Niro.

Grande is embarking on a “small stint” of tour dates from June to August, performing in arenas in the US, followed by a ten-night residency at London’s O2 Arena throughout August. She’s been gradually scaling back her commitments as a major pop star, opting for mini tours rather than years on the road.
