"It is such an honour to be recognised as a leader in transforming lives and inspiring others through music.”

Once again shining a light on the unsung heroes of the music industry, ARIA and The Song Room have confirmed the Music Teacher Of The Year Award will return this year, with applications opening today.

Nominations are open to the public and any music teacher working at a school, kindergarten, early childhood centre, youth centre or private tuition music school is eligible.

"ARIA is thrilled to announce the return of the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award as part of the 2019 ARIA Awards and we are proud to welcome back Telstra as our major sponsor for the award," ARIA Chief Executive Dan Rosen said.

Last year’s award was bestowed to South Australian teacher Scott Maxwell from Grant High School.

“Music is so important, it’s life changing, it connects us with the world, it connects us with each other, it connects us to ourselves and it brings our consciousness into the present," Maxwell said.

"This award is validating music education in our country and it is supporting music education in our country, which is so important. There are so many amazing educators out there doing wonderful things in music and it is such an honour to be recognised as a leader in transforming lives and inspiring others through music.”

A shortlist of nominees will be unveiled at the ARIA Nominations Event in October, with each nominee then partnered with an ARIA Artist Ambassadors who will visit their school.
