Anthony Albanese Shares His 2025 Hottest 100 Picks

A solid list of artists from Australia and the UK, Spacey Jane, G Flip, Hatchie, and more are part of Albo's votes for 2025.

DJ Albo is in full force, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese unveiling his votes for triple j’s annual Hottest 100 poll.

Taking to social media on Thursday, January 15th, Albanese continued his annual tradition of sharing out his favourite tracks of the year.

Kicking things off with Olivia Dean's chart-topping single Man I Need, it's a relatively strong mix of UK and Australian artists. While Lily Allen's West End Girl gets some love, so too do Wolf Alice with Bloom Baby Bloom.

On the local front though, Albo appears to have an affinity for breezy indie rock, mainly. While Hatchie's Sage sits alongside Adelaide hip hop icons the Hilltop Hoods' Don't Happy, Be Worry, both Kita Alexander's Press Pause and Ocean Alley's Life In Love get some love.

Spacey Jane's Through My Teeth scores a mention, as does G Flip's In Another Life. The list closes out with Ruby Fields' 2025 Like A Version performance, where she delivered a stellar rendition of The Cure's 1989 goth anthem Lovesong.

One notable omission from the list, at least according to social media comments, is Joy Division, who Albo brought into casual conversation this year when claims were made that his wearing of their Unknown Pleasures album shirt was antisemitic.

Joy Division are, of course, ineligible for this year’s poll, namely because they broke up 46 years ago and have released no new music since.

Albanese has a noted history of sharing his Hottest 100 votes, having picked the likes of Amyl And The Sniffers, The Kid LAROI, Billie Eilish, and more in last year’s poll.

Voting for the 2025 Hottest 100 countdown closes at 5 pm AEDT today, with triple j revealing a few new last-minute teasers ahead of the poll taking place on January 24th.

Most notably, a new No. 100 has come into view (the fifth new one for the day), while five artists currently have back-to-back entries, and 15 songs now have less than ten votes separating them. This comes days after the station claimed the upcoming countdown was on track to be “tighter than ever”.

Last year’s countdown saw Chappell Roan top the poll with Good Luck, Babe! after 2.4 million votes were counted.

It was an epic year for record-breaking women, with Billie Eilish and Charli XCX scoring a massive eight entries. That record eclipsed G Flip’s own seven from the year prior, which broke Wolfmother's six, set in 2005.

However, it was a disappointing turnout for local acts, with only 29 songs by Aussie acts – the worst showing of homegrown artists since the 1996 poll. Notably, this year’s voting system shows an option to filter tracks by whether they are by an Australian act.
