Washington D.C. metal band Animals As Leaders will return to Australia this September.
The group last toured Down Under in April 2023, but this time around, they’ll celebrate the tenth anniversary of their seminal third album, The Joy Of Motion.
Set to perform the record in its entirety, The Joy Of Motion redefined progressive metal with its unique coupling of technical precision and emotional depth. With tracks like Kascade, The Woven Web, and Physical Education, the album has brought tens of millions of streams to the band’s name.
Upon its release, the album landed at #23 on the US Billboard 200 chart and received praise from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, and Modern Drummer.
For their upcoming Australian tour, Animals As Leaders will be joined by New York’s Car Bomb. A band known for their aggressive, experimental approach to metal, Car Bomb have earned a devoted cult-like following.
This is a tour that Australian heavy music fans won’t want to miss. The tour begins at Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Friday, 12 September, and continues at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Sunday, 14 September, Melbourne’s Forum on Thursday, 18 September, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Friday, 19 September, and wraps up at Perth’s Magnet House on Sunday, 21 September.

Reviewing the band’s 2017 show at Melbourne’s 170 Russell, The Music’s Rod Whitfield wrote, “Animals As Leaders transport you to some hyper-advanced super universe where musicians, writers and artists are paid to practice and pursue their art all day, where the inhabitants all pursue truly enlightened lives, where no one lives in want, in fear of their life or of being harassed simply for who or what they are.
“Watching Animals As Leaders makes one actually believe that this kind of world is possible, if only for an hour and 20 minutes.”
