Slayer are on their way out with the recent announcement of a final farewell world tour from the band.

In some monumental news from Slayer today, the long-running thrash metal icons have just announced their fast-approaching end with a farewell world tour, which is slated for 2018 (and possibly into 2019). While actual tour dates have not yet been fully announced yet, it promises to be a "world tour"; the beginning of the end for one of the Big 4 bands.

This news came via a recent video announcement, which you can find below. Set to the sonic backdrop of the classic 'Raining Blood', the clip shows a montage of footage, early posters, as well as archival and recent band promo photos from the band's accomplished 37-year career, as it reveals the news to shocked fans. Not that it's all that shocking, really. Not to be ageist but Slayer themselves aren't young men anymore and haven't been for years; things also haven't been the same since the sudden and tragic death of guitarist Jeff Hanneman in 2012; and with the real dip in quality of recent records, I've personally felt that this has been on the cards for a while now. Hell, I'm surprised that this new hasn't come sooner.

That being said, given the sheer impact and insane legacy that this band have had and will behind, this is a very big deal for heavy music: an end of an era in some ways.

So cheers for all of the sick riffs and killer songs over the years, Slayer - I'll definitely be putting on 'Reign In Blood' today.
