On Sunday (7 December), the Good Things Festival Instagram account teased a surprise performance, posting a photo of a garage door that read “Who Found Amy? Good Things Garage – 5 pm.”

Fans attending the Brisbane leg of the travelling festival found the garage and experienced more than they thought they would when American pop-punk act New Found Glory were joined by Australian singer-songwriter Amy Shark on stage.

Footage of the band and Amy Shark performing an old number, Hit Or Miss, captured by Australian music outlet Wall of Sound, can be watched below. During the band’s normal main stage performance, they played tracks such as My Friends Over You, All Downhill From Here, and more.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Shark, a lifelong pop-punk fan, shared more videos of her shock performance with New Found Glory and described the experience as the best day of her life. New Found Glory also shared additional videos on their Instagram Stories.

While it seems like Amy Shark and New Found Glory wouldn’t even know each other, last year, the Aussie singer revealed that she almost joined the band as their touring guitarist.

“I nearly went on tour with New Found Glory, playing in their band,” she told The Music. “That's something I haven't said out loud! But I had Australian Idol, and that was coming about the same time we were working out if I was going to do Idol or not.”

She continued to explain that one of the band’s guitarists, Chad Gilbert, was unwell – he was receiving intense chemotherapy for a rare cancer called pheochromocytoma in February 2023 – and because of that, she was asked if she’d like to join them on tour. For their Good Things and Australian headline shows, the band were accompanied by Four Year Strong’s Dan O’Connor on guitar.

Shark said, “One of their guitarists is not well, and I’m like, I know so many New Found Glory songs. They're like, ‘Do you want to come and be in the band?’ And I was like, ‘What a crazy idea, but I kind of like it!’ So, yeah, I nearly went on tour with them.”

Since then, Amy Shark has officially secured collaborations with all three members of blink-182 across her albums.
