Airline Woes As British Airways Loses Scott Darlow’s 'One Of A Kind' Painted Guitar

6 December 2022 | 9:22 am | Mary Varvaris

Scott Darlow does not mince words about his unhappiness with British Airways.

The show almost did not go on for Scott Darlow when he arrived at Heathrow Airport twelve hours ago and was informed that his "one-of-a-kind" guitar and didgeridoo had been lost.

"Huge shout out to British Airways who have lost my one of a kind band painted Fender acoustasonic guitar and my didgeridoo," he posted on social media.

"After promising me this time yesterday that they would have it on a flight into Heathrow last night and I'd get a call to pick it up this morning. It's been radio silence, and their tracking website says they don't know where it is. First gig is in 4 and a half hours. Thanks BA."

Nine hours later, Darlow posted an update with excellent news. "I just wanted to thank everyone who shared or commented on my post about British Airways losing my luggage," he said in a video. "We've had a great outcome in the end - I had a phone call earlier today that my guitar had turned up at Heathrow Airport, and I could come and pick it up.

"I got in the car and went up there, and that was an unbelievably horrendous process because I had to wait the best part of two hours for someone to walk down the stairs and escort me through security," he continued.

"I will never complain about Qantas again; let's put it that way. But British Airways found the guitar - but the didgeridoo, the yidaki, was sitting on its own away from the luggage. Luckily I could find it because I nearly lost that.

"So yeah - a great outcome. I just finished the show, and the show went well; the guitar played beautifully, and I am so relieved to have it back."

Scott Darlow revealed his essential Aussie rock song with The Music, and it was Black Fingernails, Red Wine. "I’d have to say that Eskimo Joe's song Black Fingernails, Red Wine is quintessential Aussie rock," he said.

"From the minute Kav sings it’s so uniquely identifiable, not only because of his voice, but also the production and melodically. I remember when this song came out, it was just everywhere. So big, and as a young, starting-out artist, it was so inspiring that guys who went to the same high school that I did could write such an incredible song. Really this song is the sound of an Aussie summer - similar to GANGgajang and Icehouse."
