Melbourne rockers Wayside have become the first Australian act to sign with Memory Music – the Philadelphia-based record label founded by Grammy-winning American record producer, audio engineer, songwriter and musician, Will Yip.
Of course, the band have a long-standing connection with the record producer, who’s known for his works with Turnstile, Balance And Composure, Tigers Jaw, Panic! At The Disco, and many others. Yip produced Wayside’s second album, What Does Your Soul Look Like, in November 2023.
Plus, to coincide with the announcement of their signing, Wayside have unveiled the new track Invisible Strings, which was recorded with Yip last year at his brand-new Memory Music Studios in Philadelphia.
The track marks their first following the addition of bassist Izzy De Leon (WAAX, Thelma Plum), and the first time the band has experimented with a seven-string electric guitar. Check out Invisible Strings below.

Opening up about their signing to Memory Music, Wayside vocalist Thomas Davenport said, “Joining Memory Music is a dream come true for us. It feels like our music finally has the right home… it feels like family.”
Will Yip added, “Wayside are exactly the kind of band Memory Music was built for. There’s a real honesty and weight to what they do, but also this huge sense of melody and atmosphere that makes it feel completely their own.
“When we worked on ‘Invisible Strings,’ it felt like the start of a really important new chapter for them. I’m proud to welcome them into the Memory Music family and help bring this next era to life.”
By signing to Memory Music, Wayside join a roster that includes Anthony Green (of Circa Survive and Saosin fame), Balance And Composure, The Starting Line, Tigers Jaw, Turnover, and more.
Wayside’s signing to Memory Music and the release of Invisible Strings arrive ahead of their debut performance at Download Festival, taking place on the hallowed grounds of Donington Park in the UK this weekend. The band are also embarking on a run of headline shows across the UK.
With a sound that defies categorisation – Wayside effortlessly blend post-hardcore with atmospheric flourishes of dream-pop, shoegaze, and emo – and inspiration from their labelmates, plus the likes of Deftones, the band show no signs of slowing down.
Last year, the Melbourne trio dropped a collaboration with Canadian grunge duo Softcult, Can You See It?. Wayside have toured in Australia and internationally, plus appeared on festival stages and shared the stage with Sleeping With Sirens, Movements, Boston Manor, and more.
