If you’re a West Australian artist of any age or level who has written a song between March 2024 and February 2025, share your creation and maybe even enter a prestigious competition.
The annual Song Of The Year Competition, coordinated by WAM and presented by Act-Belong-Commit, invites songwriters, musicians and bands to submit their music into a range of categories alongside the A Song For Sophie Award for under 25 entrants, an award dedicated to Sophie Smith, a Western Australian music lover who passed away in April 2014.
The A Song For Sophie Award focuses on strong lyricism. This year’s successful entrant will be mentored by Jordi Davieson from San Cisco and receive a $2,500 cash prize to fund their musical development.
“WAM’s Song Of The Year Awards gives an incredible and rare platform to showcase the incredible local music produced in our state,” WAM Chief Executive Officer Owen Whittle said.
“This year, we have yet again seen WA artists being drowned out of the triple j Hottest 100, with only two local songs making the cut. This is despite the fact we consistently produce the best music in the country.”
WAM’s Song Of The Year is anonymously and independently judged by a range of music industry experts, and an awards night will be held in August.
