Yesterday (15 May), the Western Australian Government launched a community and stakeholder consultation to inform the design and delivery of the new Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct. The community consultation marks a key component in fulfilling the Cook Labor Government's commitments to diversify WA’s economy and create new jobs.

"As part of this project, we will address a clear gap in Perth's music venue infrastructure and deliver permanent facilities to attract the best local and overseas artists," Premier Roger Cook said. "In addition, the street circuit will put WA on the global motorsport map, delivering on my commitment at the State election.”

The upcoming state budget will allocate $217.5 million to support the delivery of the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct election commitment.

This proposed precinct would be at Burswood Park, delivering aspirations of the Burswood Park 20 Year Vision to transform the area into an “iconic recreational and tourism destination.”

The concept design features an outdoor amphitheatre for large-scale live music events, a multi-use track, and a versatile building designed to host a variety of sporting and music events. These include cycling, triathlons, running festivals, Paralympic racing, community sports, and an annual marquee motorsport festival. The project will also seek to address transport constraints to and from Optus Stadium, particularly for people with disabilities.

This consultation invites individuals, groups, or organisations to provide feedback, ideas, or opinions on the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct (PESP) Project. A mail-out is also being sent to more than 25,000 households throughout surrounding suburbs, encouraging residents to participate in the design of the precinct.

Sport and recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said, "We committed to delivering a multi-use precinct open to everyone throughout the year, and that's why it's so important we get ideas from the community and stakeholders on what facilities they'd like to see included, how they would like to use the precinct".

Owen Whittle, CEO of Western Australian Music (WAM), attended a press conference about the newly released consultation.

Whittle stated, “We urge our supporters to engage in the consultation process to propose initiatives and incentives that will build on the venue to support our local music scene. This new space offers a fantastic opportunity to bolster WA’s live music culture and provide artists with the platform they need to succeed.”
