Melbourne's live music venue, The Gasometer Hotel—colloquially known as The Gaso—will close its doors at the end of March. Hopefully, the closure will be temporary.
In a statement posted to social media yesterday (20 February), the venue informed fans that its director has stepped down after three years, and staff are currently looking for someone new to run operations “with as minimal disruption as possible.”
For now, though, the venue will have to close its doors on Monday, 31 March. Team Gaso encourages punters to fill out the venue over the next month for what could be its final-ever gigs—we sincerely hope that won’t be the case.
Responding to concerned commenters, venue director James Martelletti said he’s been operating the venue at a “pretty significant loss” in a “brutal” industry.
“Unfortunately, my pockets are only so deep, and I cannot afford to keep the doors open myself anymore,” Martelletti continued. “Hopefully, we can find someone to take over and keep things as they are, and we don’t lose another live music venue.”

It is with sadness that we share some important news at The Gaso. After three years of rhythm & booze, open airs and rockin' shows our director is moving onto other projects.
We are currently on the market looking for someone to take over operations with as minimal disruption as possible to someone who wants to maintain our venues legacy. For now though, our last day of trading will unfortunately be the 31st March.
We'd love for you to show your support by packing this place out for what could be our final gigs ever! Check out what's coming up and get yourself some tickets.
Much love, Team Gaso
