Critically acclaimed Melbourne/Naarm-based artist Stella Donnelly has unveiled the first taste of new music since the release of her 2022 album, Flood.

Making her return, the Old Man singer has announced her signing to Dot Dash Recordings / Remote Control Records. Donnelly has shared a music video for the entirely a cappella track Baths, and the accompanying track, the indie-folk number Standing Ovation, can be played on streaming services.

You can check out the new singles below.

After taking some time away and evaluating her relationship with music, the two new singles mark an exciting, surprise new era for Donnelly. She’s relocated from Fremantle/Walyalup and begins a new musical chapter, which she says comes at the “right time for a reset.”

In a statement, Donnelly said of her new signing, “It felt like the right time for a reset, creatively, personally, and professionally. I could think of no better home for these songs than Dot Dash. I’m so grateful to have found a team who genuinely believe in the music and have given me the space to explore what this next chapter looks like. I felt very much at home straight away!”

Director of Labels, Sweetie Zamora, added, “We’ve been fans of Stella’s incredible songwriting since her debut EP Thrush Metal. These new songs hit us right in the heart, and I’m deeply thankful that after a period of time away from making music, Stella has returned and trusted Dot Dash to join a new chapter with her.”

Reflecting on the process of putting Baths together, Donnelly commented, "I came up with this melody while I was swimming laps at the Brunswick Baths, the pool filter was making a humming sound on one note, which allowed me to sing a melody over the top.

“It then continued when I got home and had a shower with the bathroom fan on. Both activities made it difficult to write any lyrics down. I finally sat with a keyboard and held a note, and it all just came together. A little timeline of my life so far.”

Stella Donnelly’s previous album, Flood, was named one of the best Australian albums of 2022 at the WA Music Awards.
